Starband Internet Service

Starband is a service provided by Spacenet, Inc., which operates the satellites used for providing Starband's two-way satellite access. Accommodating both residential and small business locations, Starband offers high-quality broadband by satellite throughout the 48 contiguous United States.

Starband's Satellite Internet Service Plans

For home / small office customers, Starband offers two plans, the Nova 1000 and Nova 1500. The basic difference is that the 1000 has maximum download speeds of 1.0 Mbps, while the 1500 plan offers up to 1.5 Mbps. The Nova 1500 will also provide more email addresses, more storage space, and higher upload speeds, as well.

Starband's Nova 1000 Plan includes the follow:

• Up to 1.0 Mbps downloads and upload speeds up to 128 Kbps.
• $79.99 per month when you sign up for a 12 month term.
• $299.99* equipment cost for all necessary equipment.
• 10 email accounts with 10 MB of storage per email account.

A static IP address, spam / virus filtering software, and 10 free hours of dialup access are included with either satellite Internet service plan. Starband provides customer support both online and by phone.

As with all U.S. satellite providers, Starband has an acceptable use policy. In our opinion they have a less restrictive policy than either HughesNet or Wildblue. Also, customers of Starband can get one free pass to remove the restriction by calling customer service and requesting a restriction removal.

Starband also has the longest "free period" for downloading / uploading where the FAP limits do not apply. They offer a six hour window between 12 AM and 6 AM during which customers may send and receive large files without worrying about hitting a penalty. They also offer tools on their Starband.net portal which allow you to monitor your usage. Starband's fair bandwidth policies combined with their good reputation from past clients make them one of the better choices for satellite Internet service.
